About the role
The Talent Acquisition Specialist manages recruitment from role intake and active sourcing through screening, interview coordination and offer support. You will work across commercial, creative, delivery and technical hiring needs, building an informed understanding of each role rather than relying on job titles alone. The focus is a clear candidate experience and evidence-based shortlists, with hiring decisions and offer approval remaining with the designated decision makers.
What you’ll own
- Clarify each requisition with the hiring manager, documenting responsibilities, essential competencies and decision criteria so sourcing and screening reflect the actual work rather than generic profiles.
- Build sourcing plans across appropriate professional networks, referrals and applicant channels, record candidate context and adjust the search when an approach does not produce relevant profiles.
- Screen candidates against agreed criteria, explore the evidence behind their experience and prepare concise notes that distinguish confirmed skills, unanswered questions and your assessment of fit.
- Coordinate interviews and feedback with candidates and hiring managers, maintain clear communication about the current stage and escalate delays or conflicting feedback that obstruct a decision.
- Maintain an accurate recruitment tracker showing role status, candidate stage, sourcing channel and next action, with access to personal information limited to the appropriate colleagues.
- Support approved offer communications and joining coordination, confirm outstanding questions with the responsible decision maker and hand required information to the colleague managing onboarding and employee records.
- Review sourcing effectiveness, withdrawal reasons and hiring-manager feedback, recommend practical improvements to role briefs and selection processes, and keep candidate-facing role information accurate and current.
What we’re looking for
- Experience managing recruitment beyond posting vacancies, including active sourcing, screening and coordinating decisions through to an accepted offer or documented closure.
- Ability to recruit across different role families and build sensible screening questions with hiring managers when a subject area is unfamiliar.
- Clear written and spoken communication, with professional candidate handling and the ability to explain evidence, concerns and next actions to busy stakeholders.
- Strong organisation using a recruitment tracker, spreadsheet or ATS, with attention to records, follow-up and confidential candidate information.
- Sound judgement about role suitability and fair assessment, including the ability to challenge vague criteria and avoid presenting assumptions as verified candidate capabilities.
Useful, but not essential
- Experience recruiting for an agency, software company or professional-services business, particularly across commercial, creative and technical positions with different screening requirements.
- Experience improving recruitment workflows, developing structured interview guides or helping hiring managers distinguish evidence of competence from presentation and job-title familiarity.
What good work looks like
- Shortlists explain why candidates fit the role, what has been verified and which questions require a hiring-manager decision.
- Candidates and hiring managers receive accurate stage information, while the recruitment tracker makes ownership and pending actions clear.
- Search decisions improve through recorded sourcing and selection feedback, and approved offers transfer cleanly into the onboarding process.
